Melb Airport is planning to further expand T2 airside retail/departure area with a new 4 storey complex added to the exisiting building. The plan includes 4500 m2 reserved for at least five new airline lounges. There have been talks that Qantas would use this opportunity to build a brand new business lounge in this new area which will be above the ground and likely have great tarmac views. However, the expansion is not due to start by Oct this year and estimated opening of mid/late 2022 (all subject to final approval).
Given QF's main focus will be on their SYD Int'l business lounge, possibly AKL lounge and there's also the SYD domestic lounges in the next couple of years, a possible new Melb int'l lounge 2022 seems logical timeline-wise. Also there's no point of doing too much with the existing lounge if they're going to move to a brand new space. Although soft product offerings (e.g. F&B, new furniture) is certainly doable, if they wish to do so.

Pleasure. QF hasn't committed to anything yet so it's just rumours so far...although I can see this being a great possibility.

Melbourne been one of the last, I'm assuming will be the most modern and worth the wait. Plus been in the new T2 I'm sure it will be really nice.
