I am travelling with QANTAS on a Business Class Tickets SYD to JNB and then transiting thru JNB for 4 hours. to another QF Flight number, although its operated by EL AL. I did this same route last year. The Normal Qantas Lounge at JNB (Shongololo Lounge) refused me entry, as they are only contracted for QF64 being the flight from JNB to Syd. I spoke to Qantas last year and they were going to rectify. So this time I have asked which lounge I can use for the 4 hours. They don't know. They are really lost, and suggested that they may not be able to offer lounge access as advertised. So I asked for $$$$ back. That did not go down well either.

My Phone APP says I can use the Shongololo Lounge, but I know they will not let me in.

The Qantas Web site says for JNB that if I am Business Class "Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas flight." which it is, but as it operated by another carrier, I seem to be stuck in the gap.

Qantas Premium said they would come back to me. They tell me I cannot use the Emirates Lounge, as the next flight is not operated by Qantas, despite the fact that the Flight does have a QF Flight Number. Qantas also state that I cannot use the BA Lounge as EL AL is not part of One world.

I am a GOLD QFF, but it expires the day before I fly. ( as I have been at home a lot in the last year). So it appears that I cannot use my One World equivalent status with BA.

Does Qantas have a 1 month extension like virgin have, where you keep your status for 1 month after the official date, just to avoid situations like this

Just thinking I could use a PAY FOR LOUNGE and force Qantas to refund me the money via Airline Advocate?

I am far from happy sitting the corridor when I paid for a Business Class Ticket.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

As you're an El Al business class passenger, you should be able to visit El Al's contract business class lounge, which is the Bidvest Premier Lounge.

Thank you, excellent advice, and probably obvious when you think about it !!!. Qantas Customer support did not know this. In the last few days they have agreed that I can purchase a Lounge Pass at the Shongololo Lounge and they will refund the money to me. However this is a ONE OFF.

Qantas advise that the wording on their web site will be changed from
"Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas flight." to
"Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas flight AND QANTAS OPERATED."

Just a bit sad that they argue over $40 Lounge access, on a $9,500 flight. Not good for customer loyality in my opinion.
