Rooftop pools, a celebrity chef and ‘Sky Deck’ floating above the Brisbane River are just the appetiser.

Coming soon: The Star Brisbane’s jaw-dropping new hotel

Five star hotel openings are always big news. However, as the centrepiece of the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf development, The Star Brisbane’s debut is perhaps bigger news than most – and we now have our tantalising first look at what awaits inside.

Opening in stages from April 2024, Queen’s Wharf is set to deliver a lightning bolt of energy into the city’s already-flourishing hospitality and hotel scene, with the ambitious 12-hectare site eventually housing three hotels and more than 50 food and beverage outlets.

At the heart of it all will be The Star Grand: a dazzling luxury hotel spanning two arc-shaped towers and housing multiple dining venues, including a headline restaurant from celebrity chef Luke Nguyen, sprawling sports bar and 360-degree signature cocktail bar.

Views to South Bank and beyond will be enjoyed from many of its 340 rooms which, though sharing a similar DNA to its Star Grand siblings in Sydney and Gold Coast, feature a more contemporary, coastal chic design.

Top of the bill are the hotel’s four Skyline Penthouse Suites, each one enjoying separate living and dining areas, plus glamorous circular bath tubs to sit and soak in the city views.

Concept images also reveal beautifully-styled River Suites adorned in calming tones of brown and cream, accented by geometric patterns and golden metallic detailing in both the pendant lights and trims on the marble-topped bedside tables.

And in the bathrooms, deep bathtubs and separate showers, double vanities and fluffy robes, plus large sliding doors to screen off the bathing area from the primary living space.

Beyond the rooms guests will have exclusive access to three stunning pools on the resort’s Leisure Deck – a 12,000sqm open-air oasis delivering two football fields of public space, plus direct access to The Star Brisbane’s striking showpiece Sky Deck.

That Sky Deck is a 250m ‘rooftop runway’ of restaurants and bars floating 100m above the Brisbane River, and affording stellar views towards the hinterland.

The full list of restaurants will be revealed in the coming months, but we do have a few tasty morsels to enjoy in the meantime. Most notably, Fat Noodle from Luke Nguyen.

Building on his decade-long partnership with The Star, the celebrity chef will bring a reimagined take of his popular restaurant – already a bit hit at The Star Sydney – to the hotel, while still giving diners that authentic taste of Asian street food.

Also confirmed is The Star’s signature cocktail bar Cherry – a companion to The Star’s Sydney and Gold Coast venues of the same name – which is home to a bold 360-degree bar mixing up a cheeky mix of cool cocktails.

In addition, those after laidback lunches or late-night bites can head over to the Food Quarter for more casual fare, such as soups, salads and pastries.

Queen’s Wharf will eventually house another three hotels, including Dorsett and Australia’s first Rosewood, together with around 1,500 residential apartments.

Nice!! Looks really good.

But the heartache in building it was amazing.
