Delta Air Lines is opening two more lounges at its Los Angeles super-hub, catering for premium travellers heading not just overseas but from coast to coast, and anywhere in between.

Both the Delta One and Delta SkyClub lounges will make their home at Terminal 2, just across from the current T3 lounges in Delta’s modern LAX Sky Way precinct.

It’s expected the Delta One LAX T2 lounge will cater more for domestic routes such as Delta One transcontinental services to New York, Atlanta, Boston and Washington, complementing a largely international focus for the T3 lounge.

Delta One passengers have the option of curbside drop at the arrivals level of Terminal 3, with its private Delta One check-in and security facilities, and then hopping a Delta golf-cart directly to the T2 Delta One Lounge.

Some Executive Traveller readers will recognise the new Delta One LAX T2 lounge as being in the same space as the former Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, near gate 23A.

This was never a massive lounge, and for now, Delta is working with what it’s got – and making the space work more like the private dining room in an exclusive members-only club.

You won’t find workspaces or spa facilities, although there are three shower suites.

The focus here is à la carte dining, drinks and cocktails, with seating for 75 guests who can enjoy a quick pre-flight bite before their Delta journey begins.

As with other Delta One lounges, just choose your seat – hot picks will be the tables by the expansive windows framing views of the airfield – and the meals and drinks come to you, courtesy of constantly-circulating servers.

“Our menu incorporates farm-fresh ingredients year-round, drawing inspiration and delectable produce from California’s rich agricultural landscape,” says Culinary Director Michael Rouleau.

Expect similar high-quality dishes as at the Delta One LAX T3 lounge, such as hamachi crudo (with fish flown in daily from Japan), hand-rolled sushi, lamb bolognese, and steak frites.

These will be complemented by “a regularly rotating menu of elevated dishes”, and we’re told a Delta One burger is also on the cards.

Breakfast sees everything from healthy acai bowls to heartier huevos rancheros, alongside fresh daily pastries and small-batch, copper-pot jams delivered each morning from East Hollywood restaurant Sqirl.

Standouts on the drinks menu are destination-themed cocktails inspired by where Delta flies from LAX.

These also feature at the Delta One LAX T3 lounge and include the pink Sakura Shuhai in a nod to Tokto, and the ocean-blue Island Sapphire, for a taste of Honolulu via rum, pineapple, coconut and lime.

Alternatives span smoothies, fresh juices and the Vitality Shot – a blend of coconut, turmeric and black pepper – and barista-pulled coffee from Santa Cruz-based roastery, Verve.

Finally, and again mirroring the LAX T3 experience, visit the tiered sweets table to sample hand-crafted chocolates from Culver City’s Milla Chocolates.

As impressive as all this sounds, it’s just the first stage of a multi-year expansion spanning through to 2028, when Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympics.

Up next is the re-opening of the T2 Delta Sky Club in 2027.

This 11,000ft2 space, which Delta shuttered for renovations in late 2024, was previously home to Air New Zealand and Air Canada lounges, with a spacious footprint and soaring windows overlooking the airfield.

After cutting the ribbon on the T2 Sky Club, the T2 Delta One Lounge will be temporarily closed – the relatively short lifespan in its current format was intended to provide a capacity boost for the US-hosted World Cup.

The T2 Delta One lounge will then be expanded and fully renovated, with a re-opening slated for early 2028.

Expect the revamped Delta One Lounge at LAX T2 to be closer to its stylishly upscale T3 sibling.

“This investment remains congruent to our strategy of elevating the premium experience both at LAX and across our global network,” says Megan Humphreys, vice president of Delta Sky Club and Lounge Experience.

“With demand for premium travel continuing to rise and our global footprint expanding, we’re thoughtfully looking at every square foot we have – designing every detail with intention and to align with the Delta One experience our customers deserve.”

As with all other Delta One lounges, access to the new T2 lounge will be limited to:

  • travellers departing or arriving on a same-day Delta One or Delta First flight
  • members of the invitation-only Delta 360 program
  • passengers on same-day departures or connecting flights with Air France La Premiere or business class, LATAM Premium business class, KLM business class, Korean Air First Class and Prestige Class, and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class

Delta is certainly on a roll at LAX, which serves as its West Coast hub and has seen a US$2.3 billion investment in the Sky Way consolidation of Terminals 2 and 3.

Direct Airbus A350 flights between LAX and Hong Kong recently began, alongside triple-daily flights to Chicago; reports suggest non-stop flights to Auckland, Manila and even London are also on the map.

VR's Clubhouse lounge at LAX T2 wasn't really all that big, on the small side (OK, let's call it 'intimate'), compared to the Delta lounge on the opposite side of T2.  That said, the Clubhouse lounge there at T2 was top class.  Delta's will easily match that, or more likely improve upon it.  (Sig, this Velocity member misses Delta).
