Bangkok Airport Novotel: new 24 hour room rate

The Novotel at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is introducing a "24 Hours Flexi" room policy, meaning that your room isn't just yours overnight: you've got it for the full 24 hours after you check in.

It's a sensible move for an airport hotel, particularly one in a transit hub like Bangkok, where flights arrive and depart 24/7.

And it's an especially good option for passengers on evening flights from Australian airports, which arrive in Bangkok in the wee hours of the morning, when getting into the city is a pain and many city hotels only have a skeleton night crew on duty.

The Novotel is ten minutes' walk from the terminal, down an air-conditioned corridor (perfect for a good stretch of the legs after a long-haul flight), or there's a 24-hour shuttle bus from Gate 4 on the airport's arrival level.

It's a huge hotel -- 612 rooms and suites -- and room availability is reportedly very good. When we checked, there were rooms available for this week and many future dates.

For an airport hotel, it's also remarkably well outfitted, with an outdoor swimming pool, spa with steam room and sauna, gym, business centre and 24-hour room service.

Looking to book? Details of the new rate haven't yet been loaded into the booking system (run by Novotel's parent company Accor, which also owns the Sofitel, Pullman, Mercure and Ibis chains), so the 24 Hour Flexi arrangements aren't yet online.

We tried a couple of bookings on the hotel's website, and the room rate conditions insist on checkout by 1400.

However, when we called the hotel, the reservations manager confirmed that all room rates apart from the 0800-1800 day rate are eligible for the 24 Hours Flexi rate.
