I have tried both Business Class products on Qantas' A330, and Emirates' 777, and would choose the Emirates 777 product any day. Although Emirates, does have it's Business Class in a 2-3-2 layout on its Boeing 777-300ER planes, the service, comfort of seat, entertainment options, ground options (such as the chauffer drive and the lounges), are far more superior than Qantas' product. I actually found the whole experience combined, more superior than the Qantas experience, with their older A330s, with the old Sky Beds.

From my experience, Emiraets tends to block off the middle seat on most of its routes, depending on the load factor. They know that their customers don't find it comfortable being seated between two people, on an ultra long haul flight, especially in Business Class and usually block it off.

If you would like to sit on the side of the aircraft, what I find useful in check-in is to kindly ask the operator, if they are able to block off the seat next to you. You do have to be very nice and sincere for this to work; things such as "I have a lot of work to complete, on my laptop, and I would hate to disturb my seat mate", or "I need to get alot of rest as I have a very important business meeting when I arrive, and I would hate to be disturbed". I know that this sounds very vague, and it does not always work, however this has worked for me a couple of times, when Business Class wasn't full, and the check-in operator was happy to abide.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask! :)
