Flying up to Tokyo on QF 21 next week in J Class; Seat map indicates it’s a 4 class 744 and I’ve managed to allocate my self into the old first cabin. I’m expecting the cabin to pretty ancient but is the seat still good for sleeping? Has anyone experienced this before – Old first being used for Business ticket holders?? Seems like a big win and far better than Skybed MK I

Hi Michael, yes this happens quite a bit now. Although Qantas has upgraded many of its Boeing 747-400s with business class where first used to be, in the nose of the jumbo, quite a few of the 'original' 747s still fly and they have the older first class. This includes the QF21 route, so some business class passengers get to fly in what used to be 'first class'. Meals etc are the same as if you were further back in the business class cabin but yes you get a nicer seat and a more 'exclusive' atmosphere being in 'first class' at the very front of the plane! Enjoy it!!

That happened to me once on the SYD - DFW route before they refurbed that plane. Its nice, though its not close to the new first class. For first class, I thought the seat was pretty narrow, and I'm not a big guy.
The food is the same as business, as is the toiletries, but they gave us first class PJs!
