Has anyone had any luck with OP ups on qantas award bookings?

Travelling in economy via sydney to bangkok this week, from the sounds around the traps the comp upgrades are far and few between nowadays even as platinums / platinum 1s? Cheers

@Joshua - If you're on a Classic Award, the chances are unfortunately very slim (considering that Classic Awards, under normal circumstances can't even be upgraded with Points) - If the Economy cabin is overbooked, they'll look to upgrade passengers with paid tickets in the first instance. If you're a high-ranked QFF (Gold or above) the chances are ever-so-slightly better.

I've been a Platinum flyer with QF for ten years straight and only ever received ONE complementary upgrade in all that time across hundreds of flights.  So your chance's are pribably nil!  I have noticed, however, that BA often give me a free upgrade when I fly with them between the UK to USA.

I have had a few upgrades from Business to First on QF Classic Award flights, always on long haul flights. I was even upgraded to First on an EK flight bought on QF Classic Award last year.

As a QF Platinum, I have never received an Ops upgrade, either domestically or internationally.

However, end of last year, I booked a Classic reward for my wife using my points. I guess my QF number must have been in the PNR and she received an ops upgrade from Economy to Business class all the way from Syd to Sin. Not bad, but I wish it would happen to me more often.

Upgrades are totally pot luck (if you have no status), that's part of the excitement of travel.

If you want certainly, then the key is to maximise your points earning and book a business class flight outright with points and enjoy the full suite of the premium services from Express checkin to Express customs.

I have had a number of QF upgrades during my time as a Plat FF - 5/6 times Sin/LHR Y to J  on both BA and QF metal  with both QF and BA flight numbers (before QF dumped BA and hooked up with Emirates). Had a couple of LAX/SYD Y to J with QF as well. Nothing recently international but have had a few domestic Y to J upgrades over the past couple of years with QF. Only one upgarde was issued at check in, the rest were either in the Lounge or at the gate.

I've had one Op upgrade, on a 737-400 between MEL-BNE so not exactly life changing but I appreciated it nonetheless. 

Been platinum for almost 5 years now & gold prior to that so I have learned not to expect anything except the seat I have bought and/or upgraded to.
