Travelling HOB-MEL-AKL with Virgin in a few weeks with only carry on baggage. As I've never flown economy with them before (only business) I don't know if they will let me hang up a suit bag in addition to my carry on baggage? Has anyone had any experience with this before?

I've usually found them to be pretty relaxed with their cabin baggage rules and quite accommodating when I've had to ask for help with additional items like a suit bag. I'm sure you'll have no problems!

Once I saw a man carry on a back pack, a sleeping bag, a bongo drum and another carry bag. As ciaomucca says, they tend to be fairly flexible.

The IATA code for Hobart is HBA ;)

You can always ask, but don't be disappointed if you get knocked back. Having said that, though, they'd usually comply.
