I have QFF Silver status. Generally speaking, is an upgrade from PE to Business on Qantas more likely to be granted on SYD - LAX or SYD - DFW? Thanks!

Have a look at Expert Flyer for seat availability in the relevant classes closer to the date.
Silver won't help much as there will be plenty of Golds, Platinums, Platinum 1's and Chairman's Lounge members in front of you.

Request the upgrade, you never know your luck. I am only Silver status as well & I got an upgrade from Bus to First on Mel-LAX & LAX-Syd in the last month :-). Good luck on your trip!
