Hi there Brains-trust. I normally just use the travel insurance that comes with my credit cards, but I will be completing a charity hike in China in September and need some advise. I had a hernia in March 2014, all repaired now, but are there any particular Travel Insurance companies I should deal with, or can make the process simple?

The hernia should not be an issue if it was fixed 14 months ago. I would call the cc company to ask for specific exclusions.

I would suggest insure and go, easy online medical........they covered my heart attack post 12months with an additional fee.

Worst case - you do something and the hernia reappears and needs surgery whilst away (ie: its strangulated and cant not be repostioned without surg) - the insurance company may consider this a pre-existing condition and without prior consultation, and additional fee may not cover this at all.

It all comes down to what they consider pre-existing, check any policies in detail.
