My brother is about to head to the US on DL metal (VA flight number), connecting to DL domestic (to LAS initially). He plans to live in the US for a while to try to get his music career started (probably based in BNA). Should he join SkyMiles or Velocity? I get tons of card miles and fly VA/NZ/EY/SQ to various places, and for the US I love my AAdvantage membership, so I have negligible SkyTeam interest, but it might be different if he's US-based for a while.

I first moved to NYC in 2013, I stick with VA as i do a few trips to and from the USA. For me it works well, i think as a platinum VA i get treated very well, lots of free upgrades whenever traveling on DL. Only thing he'll need to look out for is the sectors required to continue to the status.
If he is starting from scratch, it might be worth starting straight out with SkyMiles
Thanks for this!
