To chains that are quite good (coverage) around the Asia Pacific region are SPG and Hilton

I've currently got Gold with SPG which some upgrades if a higher room is available, other benefits are free wifi/welcome drink but most SPG hotels come with free wifi anyway so it makes no difference

Platinum with SPG can also get you included breakfast but only after the 50th night.

The Hilton HHonours program i'm Silver (10 Nights) in and the perks are smaller than SPG but after staying 4 nights in a row the 5th night is free.

I've looked at the Hyatt program which also seems ok but you need to stay 50 nights for the benefits to roll in, Which includes Club Lounge Access (Free Breakfast), Suite upgrade 4 times a year and smaller little things like 2 United Club passes which could be used in Tokyo, Hong Kong or other places with a UA operated lounge.

Where are you traveling to in particular, Generally when I travel I stay at a hotel for its location, services and price instead of hotel programs.

Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou,

Singapore, Sydney, Brisbane & Melbourne.

Location and value for money is definately what I am looking for.

You didn't specify a country but I'd say check out Shangri-La's Golden Circle program too, has great benefits and the hotels are great too!

I'm Diamond with Hilton and Hyatt and have some experience with other chains.

I would be going with Hilton, they offer the best mid tier program with Gold and treatment is very good in Asia and Australia, and they have great Australian coverage with hotels pretty much everywhere. Gold will get you upgrade (often to a club level room), free breakfast, bottled water, late check out etc.

If you stick with Hilton, you'll recieve Diamond with 60 nights but gold in the meantime and their gold is much more beneficial than other brands, which have pretty low benefits.

SPG is risky as they are being merged with Marriott next year, Shangri La is great however they have a sketchy upgrade policy (You'll only get an upgrade if the room you booked isn't available) and a very small footprint in Australia.

Hyatt is fantastic worldwide and in Asia but have a relatively small footprint in Australia, but their treatment of Diamonds is absolutely fantastic,
