Yes, after barely a year in the job. Quite a shame, as personally I liked what he was doing and the direction in which he seemed to be taking the airline.

'Personal reasons' is the logic given in the joint Mueller / MAS public relations statement.
Whether that is true or whether he has had 'trouble' working with the management of MAS owners, it is a damn shame. He seems to have successfuly overhauled a lot of problem areas (staff numbers, routes, costs and revenue) but I sense that he may have hit 'resistance' in a number of other areas. Read into that what you will.

A bit of further research on the above reveals some interesting detail:
It appears that Christoff Mueller's wife and two teenage children have remained in Dublin since his appointment to MAS CEO in KUL. Not surprising - given that uprooting teenage children from schools would be both disruptive and expensive.
Also, Mueller will remain as a consultant to MH up until the end of Sep 2016 to assist in the recruitment of a new CEO and the continuance of Mueller's planned objectives. If he was being dumped or frozen out, the above would not be occuring.
So it appears that no schadenfreude is appropriate. This looks exactly like what it says it is - family reasons and considerations from a CEO who is intensely private and has sought, since his CEO appointment at MH, to maintain a low-key profile.
