Sri Lankan were recently slugged with a $170m penalty for cancelling an order of 4x A350s, and they also sub-leased 4x A330s to PIA. I think they've re-evaluated their priorities.
SriLankan never announced or confirmed the route (despite what I've seen reported elsewhere) - they were merely considering it and how the schedule might fit as part of their broader network, according to SriLankan HQ, but ultimately this did not go ahead.
