I've noticed on a recent arrival into Sydney, that Qantas offers a Domestic Transfer service from International terminal to Domestic T3. I was wondering if Qantas can recheck baggage at this facility, as in: i'm travelling into Sydney on a separate ticket, and on a different airline than Qantas, so my bags won't be tagged to my final destination. As a result, can I still use this transfer facility, and can they then completely recheck my bags with different bag tags, etc? Any advice/experience would be great.

AFAIK the Qantas Domestic Transfer desks in the International terminal function as normal domestic check-in desks. So you can just turn up there with your e-ticket or QFF card, check in and drop your bags, and catch the free shuttle bus to the Qantas domestic terminal, provided you are booked on a Qantas domestic flight.

CBR boy is correct. Grab your bag, clear formalities then head for the QF transfer desk.

you don't need your Qantas e-ticket or QF ff card, just your name will suffice & some id.Many airlines have interline agreements with Qantas, so you might even be able to tag your bags from origin to destination, but still have to walk them thru customs in SYD. This was easier until more recently, when have noticed sometimes going to USA via SYD, on ff ticket to SYD & paid ticket from SYD, that some check in staff will tag bags all the way & others won't.

Went through yesterday and can confirm CBR boy is correct - it's just a normal check-in area but there's a bus between there and the terminal

just your name & ID.

Some airlines have interline baggage agreements with Qantas.

You might still  be able to tag your bags all the way from origin overseas to destination in Australia, even though on 2 tickets, but will still have to walk your bags thru customs in SYD.

Noticed lately that that some changes are a foot, where eg. flying to USA on paid ticket & then using QF ff ticket from LAX to another US port, they won't tag your bags, so you have to pay US$25/bag

This happened to me (though some time ago = 2009) I was flying Sydney/Heathrow/Newark/Chicago/Denver/Los Angeles/Sydney on a Qantas booked ticket and told in Newark I had to pay $25/bag to fly to Chicago.

On my next leg Chicago to Denver the check-in staff started to ask for the $25/bag then said "this doesn't apply because you are a thru ticket" I said Newark charged me the fee and she replied "That's because they don't know what they are doing and you should claim a refund."

My next leg from Denver to Los Angeles never even asked for the fee.

Worth checking out.
