Where did you get that from?

I've heard nothing to suggest this is the case. The transition to Sabre is to implement a more robust reservations system now that they've rebranded as a full service airline. I doubt they'll be any changes in terms of how the velocity program works, at least from the members' perspective.

I found it here via AFF. It is a PDF on the Virgin website so I assume it is legit, but I haven't seen it announced anywhere else.

Just checked the Velocity site... you're quite right!

This is very interesting!

Yeah they are. This is floating around outlining all the changes:

Per sector SC and points; SC and points on Any Seat awards.

The brief to travel agents indicates that is the case. http://www.virginaustralia.com/cs/groups/internetcontent/@wc/documents/webcontent/~edisp/sales_trade_release_5_velocity.pdf

Update from Virgin Australia's Facebook page:

"After 13 January, Status Credits and Eligible Sectors will be earned based on the mileage for each flight sector you travel, instead of the distance between your origin and destination."

Oh awesome... I didn't see the bit about the Any Seat awards! This finally matches Qantas' Any Seat award except for the fact that you can view business class any seat awards for Qantas online whereas Virgin only displays economy seats online as any seat awards... Hopefully this will change.

Virgin show this too - you just need to click the 'Show more fares' at the top of the table when doing a redemption search - it expands to give you Any Seat Saver/Flexi/Business options.
