Go for SQ. It costs bit more plus a connection in SIN, but who can really beat SQ in terms of service and comfort (not even "gulf three" can match them)
This is what I was going to suggest. Yes, it's a bit longer, but SQ are awesome and Changi is a great airport.
Thanks again for all the comments and advice. After all that I've actually decided to come back to SYD via PER to catch up with some friends there. The Garuda flight from DPS to PER gets in very late, so I was faced with LCC choices - Jetstar, Air Asia or Malindo. I snagged a business class fare with Malindo for $280 so it will be interesting to see what it ends up being like!
