Saw the articles on this site from a few years ago that Velocity Platinum members were being sent to the AirNZ lounge on A380 flights out of Sydney. Is this still the case given that all EY flights from Sydney are on A380s? Or can platinum access the Etihad lounge? Any recent experiences?

I've flown the EY A380 numerous times (most recently in June) and never been redirected to the Air NZ lounge. It could be a matter of redirecting platinums once hitting a certain capacity in the Etihad lounge though.

When I last had this discussion with Etihad, my understanding is that when the A380 is completely full in business class and first class, the Sydney lounge has very little space available for frequent flyers booked in economy, so preference is given to Etihad Guest Platinum and Exclusive (VIP) members, with everybody else (Etihad Guest Gold & Velocity Gold and Platinum) directed to the Air NZ lounge.

When the A380 isn't completely full upstairs, or when the number of Etihad Guest Platinum flyers booked in economy is small, there's more room in the lounge and so more frequent flyers can be invited inside.

Hard to say whether you've been lucky or whether there has been a change in policy, but am interested to hear about the recent experiences of others. :)
