Hello,

Are there any direct/indirect ways to get Star Alliance Gold Status match?

For instance Turkish Airlines accept Skyteam (Elite Plus), Oneworld (Emerald), Emirates (Gold - Platinum), Etihad (Gold -Platinum) to status match Elite Card.

I am guessing Oneworld via QFF or Etihad (since it's a partner) could be possible. Or are there any other ways (perhaps AirNZ/Krisflyer) to do that directly?

Don't think about it. The easiest way to get *G (Star Alliance Gold) is NOT through Turkish.

It was Aegean Airlines, and still is (albeit at higher mileage criteria). For first year, 48,000 miles on Star Alliance carrier will get you Star Gold, then only 24,000 miles to retain them.
Earn: two SYD-SIN-LHR return plus a one-way SYD-SIN (SQ premium economy and economy coded Y, B, E, M, H, W)
Retain: one SYD-SIN-LHR return plus a one-way SYD-SIN (SQ premium economy and economy coded Y, B, E, M, H, W)
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Aegean Airlines. I am an Aegean Star Gold member for 8 years now.

I would highly recommend using United's status match which is available until the end of this month. My velocity gold was matched with Star Alliance Gold for a three month period. If you meet the terms of their status challenge you'll then get it for a full year.

PS: Although you don't receive a physical card whilst on the trial, you can use the virtual card on the United App to get privleges with other Star Alliance carriers.

Hi Guys,

A bit of advice would be appreciated. I'm Velocity Gold and am travelling to South Korea in economy with Singapore Airlines in February for the winter Olympics.

I have already booked the flights and attached my velocity frequent flyer number. I will most likely never reach platinum status although I'm at 710 status credits as we speak. I'm travelling with my partner who pools points and status credits to my account.

Am I better off taking up this offer and switching my points to a newly created United Frequent Flyer number with gold status matched and leave my partner on the velocity number or should I just stick with the Velocity Frequent Flyer number for the booking. The benefits of the switch I can see would be to have access to the Business Lounge in Singapore of Singapore Airlines as we have a connection in Singapore.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the eligibility criteria for the full year requiring it for flights operated by United or United Express? Meaning that they don't accept codeshare with other star alliance?

Stick with Velocity. The United Status match will be a waste of time unless you plan on flying a lot of United in the next few months, and will only match your current status. Pretty pointless.

Velocity Gold is perfectly acceptable, Platinum confers no further benefits on your SIA flight other than an extra ~15% points earn per mile.

Hi Sarpkaya,

Yes you're completely correct. However the original poster did ask for a direct or indirect way to get Star Alliance gold. In retrospect I didn't outline the conditions of the challenge. Personally I completed the match for some upcoming travel with Thai Airways, having no intention to fly with United.

Sorry, are you saying that the united challenge can be completed by flying Thai Airways? If so how is that possible?
