Taking a look on the VA website for a return trip to NY in September.

First thing I notice is that for the return flights, VA seem to no longer offer VX connections from JFK to LAX, they're all VA codeshare flights on Delta flights. Last year when I flew this itinerary I flew a VA codeshare flight operated by VX.

The other thing is the price. VA are pricing a business saver ticket at over $14,000!! QF was about $9000 and UA just inder $7000. I just wonder if VA are going to be coming out with competitive pricing

My following comment is completely unresearched, but it may be that VX has reduced their LAX-JFK schedule (particularly when then VA flights arrive into LAX) in favour of flights on their new LAX-EWR (Newark) route.

cssaus – That pricing sounds like a bug. If they can't fix it, you may get better pricing if you ask the call centre to break your flights up into (Australia)-LAX and LAX-JFK prices.

Also, they're more than happy to set up VX connections for you if you want them, you'll just have to call up the call centre. They'll waive the booking fees for that since you can't do it online.

I've had a few interesting fares while usingthe booking engine on the QF website recently. I looked at doing Per to London to Lisbon to Perth for lowest economy fare and it came back at 16k, treid again and got 13K. Think there may be some glitches while the QF/EK things get worked out.

I rang the call centre, gave them my travel dates and they came back and confirmed a return business class airfare from SYD-JFK @ $14,394!

I mentioned to them the prices offered by their competitors and that VA's fare was more than double UA fare.

I can only hope that VA will release some sale fares in coming months.

I forgot to look at pricing a fare with Delta.

Using the Delta codeshare flights on VA operated by VA from SYD-LAX and LAX-SYD, I priced a business class fare in (I) class at $7,254!!

There's got to be something wrong there somewhere??

I might contact VA customer service and see if they can offer an explanation.

Virgin Australia has very poor dynamic pricing for its international flights, and the website is very limited in terms of it capabilities for pricing internationally.  Much of it is due to the fact most of the flights are codeshares (this will become an issue with QF/EK as they sort out their pricing) .

You can combine VA and Virgin America with their fares but more often and not the pricing system will not offer them.  If the website had a multi destination function where you select the flights you want by sector you would get the pricing

$14000 would be a fully flexible ticket and completely valid, however $7254 is the more realistic fare Virgin offer to New York and they do offer it.

I recommend talking to a good agent for Virgin Australia fares, as their systems have much better pricing capabilities and the system can be manipulated to get the result you are looking for

Well I called the VA call centre and had them work out a costing for me and they confirmed the $14,394 fare. I told them about the fares being offered by their competitors and the fact that the pricing on the Delta code share flights operated by VA to & from LAX were half the cost of what VA was quoting.
