Hi folks

This might seem like a really obvious questions but I thought I'd check as I can't seem to find any clear information on it on the interwebs.

I'm a Krisflyer Elite Gold member and will be doing some domestic flying in Thailand on Thai Airways. Thai's discount economy flights are in W or V class, which don't accrue Krisflyer miles - can really only accrue W/V class with a few *A carriers (Thai, Lufthansa, TAP).

If I were to provide a Thai ROP membership number in the booking, am I still able to show my Krisflyer card and boarding pass at the airport to gain lounge access? Or do I need to have the Krisflyer number in the booking?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

A

You should include your Krisflyer number in the booking so when you scan your boarding pass for entry, you are accepted. Once you have done that, ask the attendant at the lounge to change your frequent flyer number to your Thai ROP number or if that's not possible, at least ask at the gate.

Showing your card will always let you in regardless of what your boarding pass says. I do this all the time.

Hi all,

I recently visited Star Alliance HQ in Germany and asked this question of the right person. Officially, alliance policy is that airlines only ‘have to’ recognise passengers in line with the status of the frequent flyer program attached to their booking. Airlines can choose to go beyond that when you present a different card (and have the capability to do it in their systems - for example, to charge a lounge visit to a different airline), but they don’t have to if they don’t want to, so if you ever encounter an agent that can’t or won’t do it, they’re not breaking any rules, so to speak.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your answers - very helpful!

I have a follow up question for the 'brains trust's here. If the TG booking class does not accrue miles, does is still earn Elite Miles? The SQ website seems to suggest that elite miles (ie that go towards status) are earned on "actual miles" flown, so in theory would that mean I'd still earn Elite Miles if I left my KF number in the booking?
