What is the product offering on VA J Class? I'm flying Virgin Australia Domestic Business Class for the first time later this week. SYD-MEL @ 7.30pm, what service can I expect onboard? Should I arrive a bit early and eat dinner in the lounge? Will the service onboard be ok for dinner?

You will have dinner served on the aircraft. Usually for me that is enough however I don't eat much at dinner time. The food has been consistantly of a high quality for aircraft food.

Dinner in the Virgin lounge at Sydney is a bit of a scrum, especially as the lounge is still undergoing renovations so there's not as much room as usual. And Virgin's lounge dinner there isn't astounding, not as good as say the Qantas Business Lounges. And as StuParr says the inflight meals aren't very substantial in serving size, although they are very good. I'd suggest grabbing a light snack in the lounge if you want to, consider it an 'early appetiser', then enjoy your business class meal on the flight.

I'm sure you will enjoy it! Virgin Business is great, I find their service in particular to be quite great. Sydney lounge is still in renovation so it is quite squeezy still, but they usually have a substantial meal option available around then. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks Guys,

That's really brilliant advice and its great to know they will serve dinner at that time of night. I'm really looking forward to my flight now, I can't wait to experience something new.

Ok, so I had my flight, and enjoyed it.

Describing The Lounge as a scrum was quite appropriate. It was very busy, packed, and I found myself lucky to actually get a seat when I arrived on the lower level. The bar was brilliant, with a large rage of beers, wines and soft drinks. Personally, I enjoyed a peroni! The food.... well.... it wasn't fine dining! Hot food was a make your own hot dog on a very stale roll, or a DIY toasted sandwich. I did see party pies at one point, but by the time I realised, they were gone and not replaced in the 1.5 hours I was there. Upstairs in The Lounge, they had the same offering as downstairs with the addition of a soup.

Onboard, was really impressed with the personalised introduction I got fom the manager and to have the mocktail served in a large glass with ice, yummy, but really impressed the crew cold describe the drink in detail. Once in the air, a choice of two hot meals was offered, either a beef stew pie with a side of peas or pumpkin curry with pilaf rice. I chose the pie, it was missing the finishing touch of the peas, but that didn't make a difference. The meat just melted in the mouth, and the pastry was super crunchy, just beautiful. A side of warm bread with butter, leaf salad and lemon dressing, and two chocolate coated macadamia. Even though the manager wrote down our order, she had to ask again about my drink preference, but at least I got my baileys on ice. No tea and coffee was offered with the main meal, but I asked as was desperate for a tea, and a tea was individually brought to me just before descent on a cup and saucer, with a nice china jug of milk.

Overall, a nice product.
