Given you have a few trips why not use points one way. Then keep buying MAA to CMB return on UL then I class business CMB to Australia return Can get tickets for 2200 AUD or so. During promo you get on CMB to Syd for instance 320SC one way. One return in business will get you gold. Do all and you would be close to platinum.
Hey Anjan, Thanks for your suggestion. So if I understand what've said ;
I need to pay (let's say onward) using my points SYD-CMB and purchase seperate tickets MAA-CMB return and CMB-SYD on J by paying for the ticket ?
have I understood it right?
Yes I have been doing it for a few years now. If your dates are flexible. I have been trying out SQ same price better availability. QF price varies more. Check out on Expedia. If you have time pricing for CMB sing Melbourne Sydney Melbourne Singapore CMB is the same but during DSC 400sc each way excluding CMB MAA flights another 80 return in business. Let me know how you go.
Hey everyone, thanks for all your inputs re booking during DSC. I was able to book all my trips until Aug 31 and I'm sure I'd be retaining gold this year.
@ AusBT : If I may ask, it will be helpful if an article could be put up with route recommendations from members in this website, if the members are willing to share the routes they did or routes they know that will give the best SC/$ rate. This way, future visitors to this website will have handy manual that suggests routes that give best SC deals.

Hey Anjan, once again, thanks for your recommendation. Due to work commitments, I couldn't take your suggestion of booking one way J from CMB to SYD. But I will try it out in the future and update this thread.

Hi Adethya, thank you for the suggestion, although AusBT doesn't cover 'status runs' and the like in editorial.
Double Status Credits promotions, yes, because it's a reason for business travellers to get their skates on and firm-up any pending work travel, or to lock-in any upcoming holiday plans to help reach/retain their status and enjoy the benefits, but most of our readers aren't booking flights to maximise the number of status credits they can derive per dollar spent, they're booking flights because they need to travel to their destination for one reason or another, and booking during a Double Status Credits window presents a smart way of achieving both outcomes, without going as far as adding detours into their journey or flying to one destination over another just to earn extra status credits, which is more in the realm of a 'frequent flyer hack', and not our focus.
Of course, there are times where that sort of thing can be advantageous - such as a Sydneysider detouring their international trip via Melbourne or Brisbane to pick up a few extra
status credits along the way, if that's all it would take to earn or retain their status for another year at minimal additonal cost - but those discussions can be had here, in the Community area.
