I got an email this morning with a QF Double Status promotion. Reading the T&C’s it states something like “only for the Recipient of the email, regardless of other passengers in the same booking”. I registered, as we’re planning some travel within the qualifying period, but does that mean only I get the double SC and not my wife also? (As it reads) But if she registers as well, will she receive the bonus?

Hello Simon, usually the registration is coded only to the recipients so that even if your wife clicks the link in your email to try and register, it won't be recognised. And yes, even if you book for both of you only you will receive the extra status credits.

I think that's the second targetted 2SC promotion Qantas has had in recent months, I wonder if this means another 'open to everyone' 2Sc offer is still some months away?

If she gets the email too, and registers, will we then both be eligible?

Is anyone aware of the logic/rationale behind selecting some passengers for the DSC offer and not others? Thanks. It would be useful for ABT to ask Qantas this directly.

I'm sure there is some rationale but I am equally sure Qantas is not about to reveal it to anybody!

There often appears to be no rhyme or reason to these DSC offers, although I would agree there must be, but if you look at the people who get them sometimes they don't seem to have much in common when you compare current status levels, how close they might be to Gold or Platinum, how frequently they fly etc. There would be some system which Qantas uses, probably a set of different criteria which they pull every few months to rotate the DSC offers throughout the eligible membership base, but sometimes it seems pretty arcane!

I got one a few weeks back, the first one in a long time. Of course it comes at a time that I cant use it or don't need to...

Are you referring to the 50% more SC offer that came out a few days ago?

"Big data" (internet) sure is changing things! Historically, over the past 5-6 years, QF has traditionally done one or - if lucky - two DSC's a year. These were usually of a week's duration. Now, it seems that there are reports of more heavily targeted DSC's every 6 weeks or so, and generally limited to 4 days duration.
It seems to me that one of two things are afoot. Either QF is getting way better at analysing passenger trends or that they are sensing an increasingly difficult trading year ahead - given the rise in fuel costs, sinking dollar exchange rate and a potentially shrivelling "discretionary" travel dollar in pay packets.

Agree with your point.
Smart moves, but, as customers we need to see what suits us and how much are we spending. In most cases, these travel offers and plans are genuine, but sometimes they're not

All the non-targeted 2SC offers seem to be released just before QF releases its quarterly financials, as pointed out perviously the targeted offers tend to be released a few weeks before this so hopefully we’ll see another handy 2SC offer released soon!

Not 100% sure BUT I have noticed that when I have logged onto my account and searched for flights and do this maybe a few times because I am genuinely interested in booking (but trying to work out best times/routes/prices etc), BUT still have not booked, then I will get an email with a special offer, be it bonus points, DSC, hotel sweetener deals. So perhaps that has something to do with it :)

Many people (including me) have seen this happen before.
