So this means no codeshare on the HKG-AMS route? Seems strange to offer CDG from SIN and HKG, but not Amsterdam from both key Asian cities QF has direct flights to.

Exactly. I think the max time you'd want to spend is 4-5 hours, and even that is a stretch. So in terms of passenger comfort, an 8 or 9 jaunt to SIN or BKK would be horrendous, unless your in J class, or if they install a more premium Y product, in which case it would probably prove uneconomic....

I've done this although my transit was 70 mins. I had time to visit the lounge even. Helsinki is a tiny, efficiently run airport. Your only concern is a delay in London, but then AY would reschedule you anyway (I think they fly twice daily to HK nowadays).

Another qs others may be able to assist with: does Qantas give full points when flying business in Sri Lankan? I know with Malaysia points are capped at fully flexible even when flying business. That could help you decide :)

I’m annoyed QF serves pretzels 🥨 and nuts 🥜 in a bag with champagne in J class. Most other 5* airlines use a bowl. This has happened twice (both times the flight was HKG-MEL).

Or you could join Krisflyer and begin racking up points and status with SQ and then have two programs which opens up more options.
