I’m sure there will be some knowledge/opinion on AusBT about this. I’m planning a trip to HKG and wanted to maximise my chances of a points upgrade to Business. Thoughts on what might be a better option:

QF30 - to MEL, leaves at 19:00 for an early arrival, A330-300, possibly business traveller flight?
QF98 - to BNE, leaves at 19:05 for an early arrival, B787-900, PE option, again possibly popular business traveller flight?
QF118 - to SYD, leaves much later at 23:35 (more time in HKG), A330-200 (hopefully not the last of the Skybed MkI - yes I know, aircraft swaps!), less popular with business travellers due to lunchtime arrival?
Your thoughts/comments would be most appreciated.

Poll: Best option for biz class upgrade or lowest passenger load (for room to spread out)?

I was upgraded on QF118 a few weeks ago as a gold member. At least half the cabin were upgrades or staff.

Also day of the week Saturday or Sunday may work better.

Tuesday may also work as it is a bit early in the week for business people coming home from work meetings etc

Maybe the QF Airbus380 if they fly on your day, might have more chances, as there are more seatings available for business and those who can, would have upgraded to First.

Plus lots of economy seating too.
Though for me, if I was flying, and there is an aim to do it one of these days, I would go with the 787, only due to the fact I like watching sunrises and sunsets, (granted that the crew might dim the windows).
Maybe the QF 787 is less luxurier in J than the Latam version, haven't flown the QF 787, but have flown the 787 with Jetstar in Y, SYD - MEL a few years ago as a domestic passenger on an international flight, and also Latam SYD - AKL.
Wide windows are a plus for me, of course, others would have different considerations.
