In the course of a discussion with QANTAS today I was told about their "Travel pass opt in" option for flight credits. Rather than waiting for a refund there is the option of creating a travel pass with either double points, DSCs (double status credits) or 10 percent increased value on redemption. I was also able to convert some existing credits to my preferred DSC option.

I'm not sure about the DSC's. Qantas may well end up extending status again. I'd go for points or 10% more value.
