There’ll soon be a fresh way to earn Avios frequent flyer points in the UK, with British Airways partnering with rideshare colossus Uber – and there’s a 250 Avios bonus to kick things off.
Following an update to the Uber app due in the coming weeks, British Airways Executive Club members will be able to earn 1 Avios per £1 spent on every Uber ride within the UK.
And those rides won’t only be limited to the four-wheeled type: train and bus travel booked through the Uber app will also count towards your Avios tally.
The airline says “all British Airways Executive Club Members will be able to collect Avios through the Uber App by the end of the month.”
A British Aiways spokesperson tells Executive Traveller that Uber users worldwide will be able to register their BAEC account through the updated Uber app.
There’ll also be a 250 Avios bonus for all members who link their Executive Club and Uber accounts in the Uber app.
Of course, since Qatar Airways has also adopted Avios as its rewards currency, Avios now enjoy even greater flexibility, and Avios sitting in your BAEC account can be transferred on a 1:1 basis to your Qatar Airways privilege Club account.
With no fee, no minimum transfer amount and no balance limitations, this is ideal for keeping all your Avios in one place or moving them to whichever airline you need to redeem them on.
As previously reported, there’s another big change ahead for British Airways and Avios, with the airline confirming that sometime in 2023 it will overhaul the way Avios are earned when flying.
Instead of earning Avios primarily based on the length of their flight and the type of ticket they’ve booked, the number of those points will be directly related to how much a passenger’s ticket costs and their status in the British Airways Executive Club rewards program.
