Garuda Indonesia offers premium check-in at Jakarta Airport

Flying from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta airport? Garuda Indonesia is keen to take the strain out of your journey with its new premium check-in area if you're in their business class or a Platinum-level Garuda Frequent Flyer program member.

The new check-in counters are set apart from the rest of the busy terminal in a redecorated space with armchairs while you're waiting -- a big improvement on the previous desk-based check-in.

In addition to checking in for your flight, you can pay your airport taxes, make new reservations and adjust existing ones -- the premium check-in area is a full reservations office too.

"Our new premium check-in area will make travelling for our Executive passengers and Frequent Flyers even more convenient. It’s part of what we call the ‘Garuda Indonesia Experience’, our unique passenger service concept which has earned us a number of awards over the last couple of months," Bagus Y. Siregar, Garuda's Australia chief, tells Australian Business Traveller.

"In Australia and the [South West Pacific] region, we have seen Executive Class bookings increase by 9.12% in the first half of 2012 compared with the same period in 2011" Bagus explains.

"With business travel growing exponentially, we wanted to make sure that our regional and business hub Jakarta is providing our premium passengers with exceptional services such as the new premium check-in area."

Top-tier Garuda Frequent Flyers will also be treated to the help of a Personal Service Assistant to take care of all the formalities for them while they relax in the waiting area.

I flew with them from SYD to AMS in economy last year and a domestic sector in business a few weeks back and they are great! Their frequent flyer program and the fact that they aren't in an alliance lets them down. Until they EVENTUALLY join Skyteam and overhaul their FF program I'll continue to fly other carriers to Jakarta.
