New UberX Plus service is like premium economy for your UberX ride

Uber Australia is now offering a 'premium economy' version of its UberX ride-sharing scheme under the banner of UberX Plus.

Promising 'an enhanced service at an affordable price', UberX Plus draws from a pool of 'experienced, highly-rated driver-partners with newer, spacious cars'.

Uber has previously indicated an UberX Plus ride would "cost 1.2x the price of an equivalent UberX ride".

UberX Plus drivers must have completed at least 500 Uber trips, maintain a rating of at least 4.85 stars and have a vehicles manufactured 2012 or later "with plenty of room to move."

The Sydney-only rollout of UberX Plus is described as 'a pilot ride option' and follows an invitation-only trial in Sydney which started mid-November 2018.

Uber has also launched its own loyalty scheme, dubbed Uber Rewards, through which passengers stand to earn credit based on how much they spend and are assigned tiers such as Gold, Platinum and Diamond, each of which comes with its own perks.
