Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay: new rooms, executive lounge

Novotel's only Singapore hotel, above Liang Court at Clarke Quay, has just completed a full refurbishment of its Premier rooms and Premier Lounge.

You'll find Nespresso machines, 42-inch flatscreen TVs with a media connectivity panel (and USB charger), JBL docking stations with iPod connectors, and bedside master control panels.

The bathrooms have also been upgraded, with separate walk-in rain showers and bathtubs.

We're a little disappointed to spy one of the strange old red chairs still in the rooms. Those uncomfortable armchairs are, frankly, well past their best and weren't especially comfortable even when new.

Premier floor guests receive a few extra perks for their dollars in addition to the upgraded rooms: express check in and check out, canapés and drinks during cocktail hour, free broadband and wifi in rooms and in the lounge, access to the hotel's boardroom, and a free breakfast -- either an American breakfast in the lounge or an International breakfast in the hotel's restaurant, The Square.

The revamp isn't before time -- we reviewed the hotel last year and found it pretty dated. So this is definitely one hotel where paying a little bit extra for a premier room is a good plan.
