Qatar frequent flyers sync up with BA ahead of Oneworld membership

Qatar Airways will extend its frequent flyer program to BA flights next month, ahead of the Gulf carrier's entry into the oneworld alliance later this year.

From 2 September 2013, members of Qatar's Privilege Club will be able to earn and burn their Qmiles when travelling on eligible BA flights (operated by BA and carrying a BA flight number).

The earning rates span from a lowly 25% in the cheapest discount economy seats through to 150% if you're luxing it up in BA First Class.

QMiles already stashed in your account can be redeemed for BA flights from 1 October 2013.

Although at the time of writing British Airways has yet to make any reciprocal announcement, we'd expect the same deal will apply for earning and burning BA Avios on Qatar flights.

Is the entry date into OW already official? I know October 1st has been buzzing around, but I have not heard any official word.  Flying QR first week of November and would like to credit to QF.

This isn't an entry date for oneworld, KG. It's QR + BA. As soon as there is an official date you'll hear all about it and certainly read about it here.

Thanks David, I understand it is only a partnership between QR & BA, probably due to BA sponsoring QR into the alliance. All looking good though for entry pretty soon as QR aligned their bagage policy and earning structures for their FF program already to be mroe in line with OW carriers. Can't wait for them to join, it will be a nice addition to the alliance!

Agreed. It will be a good addition and importantly QR is in league with core members of Oneworld. I do like how Oneworld has grown organically in a non haphazard way, unlike other alliances.

KG: absolutely, QR is a good fit for Oneworld as well as a bit of a coup, being the first of the 'big three' Gulf carriers to join an alliance!

Given the "convertibility" of BA and AA "mileage" can one assume the table above is AA's rate of accrual for QR vv?

One can assume nothing.

I also presume that as we are now only 4wks out from 1 October that the date has slipeed - historically date has been confirmed 6-8 wks out, although has proven with Kingfisher even that is no guarantee.
