SkyTeam alliance app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch reviewed

We're taking a look at all of the apps and mobile sites on offer from the major airline alliances

SkyTeam is the second largest of the three alliances, and its members are Aeroflot, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean Air, TAROM and Vietnam Airlines.

SkyTeam's app is available at both the iPhone/iPod Touch screen resolution and the larger iPad size, but since the iPad and iPhone functionality is identical, we're using the iPhone one for a change.

The main thing you're probably looking for is Flight Search.

Flight searches are easy enough, but the results aren't laid out in a sensible way. If a search is made for (say) a Tuesday, the app takes up a fair bit of screen real estate to display which days a flight operates. Who cares? If we're looking for a flight on Tuesday, why tell us that the flight doesn't run on a Sunday?

The information about each flight does very helpfully say whether meals will be served -- particularly useful when connecting through the US, where buy-on-board is the norm.

The Flight Status section looks useful, although the weather-checking functionality doesn't impress -- its results were several degrees C off other weather sites. (Besides, Apple has its own weather app.)

SkyTeam's iPhone/iPod Touch app and iPad app can be found on the Apple Store.
