Visited both the Sydney and Melbourne lounge and the offerings were disappointing to say the least and was more in line with a regional Qantas club than an international business lounge.

Not for the CBD of an international city. Go to any international city with good transit and you'll find that the 5 star hotels are mainly based around key public transport modes with a max 5 min walk to the entrance of the station. Anything more than that is fine but just not ideal.

It's a 5-8min walk to Town Hall and a 5-8min walk to light rail. Not an ideal location for a premium hotel in a public transit city.

So the advice from this is to give the US a miss until they can sort out their broken free-for-all system.
