I used this lounge last month and the food was very average but the bartender was really nice and personable and someone you could have a chat with. So well done in hiring some good staff though the food needs an refresh too.

I haven't flown Qantas for a while in Business due to the cost but Virgin has been a pleasure to fly at a discounted price to Qantas. I find the staff/crew are enjoying the flight more than their competitors are and that shows in their service with a smile for me.

I have been to that lounge many times and for me, what makes it better than its rivals is the friendly local staff who will share a chat with you and seem genuine. That works for me. The drinks and food are a bonus as are the views over the tarmac towards to hinterland. 

It's a pity they don't think ahead when designing these aircraft when it comes to the front row of business and put a small foot rest area under and within the bulk head, that would be forward thinking and a winner.
