Virgin Australia increases Brisbane-Newcastle flights

Virgin Australia is boosting its flights between Brisbane and Newcastle next month with two new weekly return services between the cities, both using Embraer 190 aircraft fitted with business class and economy.

Perfectly-timed for Newcastle residents tending to business in Brisbane, from February 21 2016 Virgin Australia will run a 7am service on Monday mornings to the Sunshine State, landing at 7:15am in ample time to reach the CBD for a 9am meeting.

There’s also a new Brisbane-Newcastle flight on Friday evenings after the working week is complete, pushing back in Brisbane at 7:10pm to reach Newcastle at 9:30pm local time.

Added to that is the chance for a weekend away in Brisbane with Saturday morning Newcastle-Brisbane services – also departing at 7am and arriving at 7:15am – plus a Sunday night flight back to Newcastle, too leaving the big city at 7:10pm.

Those jetting from Newcastle on the early morning flights will also have improved connection opportunities to various Virgin Australia international destinations including Los Angeles, Christchurch, Queenstown and Wellington.

From February 21 2016 Virgin Australia will offer a total of 21 return flights between Newcastle and Brisbane each week, with these new services complementing the already twice- or three-times-daily flights on the airline’s existing schedule.

Why VA have not done these flight times daily is beyond me.

QF2420 wheels up from NTL at 7:45 and JQ480 wheels up at 6am are almost always full.

It is almost always full on the return leg JQ487 wheels up from BNE at 7:20 pm and QF2427 wheels up 6:45pm as well

The exsiting VA times just do not suit business at all.

@motef its because VA needed to park the aircraft in Brisbane overnight whereas I believe they will be parking at Newcastle to do those times.
