Alaska Airlines offers free inflight internet, with a catch...

IN BRIEF | Connecting from Qantas or V Australia at LAX onto Alaska Airlines? Throughout this month you'll find free inflight internet on offer -- although there's a catch.

The 'free internet' deal is restricted to smartphones and iPod Touch devices. Other more data-guzzling gadgets like laptops and iPads will attract a fee starting from $4.95 per flight.

The inflight internet is provided by GoGo -- a grid of mobile phone base stations pointing towards the sky, providing internet access to aircraft flying across the entire US continent.

Alaska Airlines provides onward flights from Los Angeles through to Seattle, Portland, Anchorage, Vancouver, Calgary and Mexico, and also connects with United flights into San Francisco from Australia, as well as in Hawaii.
