BA lets businesses triple-dip on frequent flyer points

British Airways is ramping up promotion for its On Business program by offering triple points to all new companies which sign up for the unique loyalty scheme.

Unlike regular frequent flyer schemes which hand out points to individuals, On Business allows companies to earn frequent flyer points.

Staff still earn the normal amount of points in BA’s Executive Club when travelling, so they don’t lose out – but under On Business the company also earns points (albeit at a much reduced rate), and any new businesses to enroll in the program will score a triple-point bonus for the first six flights.

For example, even a bum-numbing economy flight from Sydney to London would earn just over 10,000 points for the individual plus 480 for the company.

The equivalent reward redemption flight from Sydney-London requires 12,480 points, so staff would have to fly the sector 26 times for a business to get the equivalent reward flight.

Nicole Backo, BA’s Regional Commercial Manager, says the ‘reward scheme for businesses’ has performed very well since being launched in Australia last year.

“We were the first country in the rollout of On Business as a single global product and the program hits its target within six months” Backo told Australian Business Traveller.

“On Business is really about adding greater value to the travel budgets of small to medium businesses. They often use points for staff upgrades, such as from economy to our World Traveller Plus premium cabin or from a World Traveller Plus ticket to our Club World business class.”

A recent partnership with Marriott Hotels also allows On Business points to be redeemed against hotel rooms, either to extend the company’s annual travel budget or to reward high-performing staff and teams.

Enrollment in On Business is free, and a company needs only an ABN and a minimum of two travelling employees. For more details click to ba.com/onbusiness.
