China Southern to double Australia-Guangzhou flights

China Southern is ramping up the number of flights between Australia and Guangzhou, with the aim of more than doubling its current services over the next two years.

The airline adds a second daily service between Melbourne and Guangzhou from the end of this month through to February 2012, before settling back to 10 flights a week from February 15.

The new service will depart Melbourne at 11.30am and arrive in Guangzhou at 6.10pm (CZ344); the return CZ343 flight leaves Guangzhou at 9am for touchdown in Melbourne at 9.30pm.

These daytime flights complement the existing redeye run, which departs Melbourne at 11.30pm and Guangzhou at 9pm.

China Southern's shift to a ‘double daily’ frequency comes just one year after China Southern introduced daily Melbourne flights, up from a previous three flights per week, underscoring significant growth in the Australia-China market.

The Guangzhou-based China Southern will also boost the number of Brisbane-Guangzhou services from three to four flights a week at the end of October, and commence Perth-Guangzhou-Beijing flights in November.
