Recently on Virgin Atlantic from London to Sydney my very early/paid booking for 3 family in a Premium Economy row together was not accessible online within the 90 days & when the online check in was done 24 hours prior the seat allocation was split so the 3 were given isolated seats .After an anxious day & later at the check in the seats were sorted out to a better arrangement .Anyone had a good seat arrangement stuffed up for no reason ? And why was the online management feature for sear selection not accessible ? Could not get an explanation from Virgin Atlantic .

You should have telephoned VA as soon as you noticed you couldn't access seat allocation on line .their online system must have been down, seat allocation has always been a funny subject as some airlines charge a fee even in buisiness class  ie ( british airways ) to select seats on line unless you are an  emerald one world FF or similar .most  FA 's normaly sort out the problems on the plane ,by moving passengers .

On a recent trip with Virgin Australia I was in Premium Economy. I booked very early and before the changeover to Sabre, so I couldn't access my seat selection online, so range the customer service centre. Before the changeover I had seats 10 H&K, bulkhead seats. After the chamgeover my seat allocation was lost, so range up and got seats 12 D&E, which was fine, but apparently on VA they sometimes block off what are termed "Premium seats" and looking online on a website which shows available seats, indicated all of row 10 was "reserved". When I spoke to the customer service line, they told me all the other AB and HK paired seats were allocated. When I caught the flight, the entire row was empty as were a number of other seats, so my brother and I stayed in our row 12 seats as there was no one in front of us to recline. What I don't understand is if "premium" seats are sometimes locked out from seat selection and a Platinum member rings up to get allocated seats, and they don't give them to higher tier frequent flyers, who do they reserve them for?

What I know at Qantas (probably the same for VA) is that certain "premium" seats are now airport controlled. Meaning that they are reserved for people with babies, elderly, etc. But if at the airport no body needs them, they often go to Platinum/Gold members. Not sure how that works. And I think that is only for international travel.
