To me the journey is as important as the destination ,always fly with the best airlines,in buisiness or first and fly during the day ,most airlines have lounges or bars on board, enjoy meet interesting people from all round the world, the food and wine on board today is 1st class ,remember life's short ,so if you can afford to travel in first or buisiness class do so and fly during the day.hope tis helps

I am now thinking I made the right choice choosing a day flight.

After reading the many responses here, and also in articles I have googled, the general concensus is a day flight is generally better, more attentive service. Not that that guarantees the service will be great on this one occasion, but I am hoping the law of averages is on my side. Aside from that, if I choose the night flight I will want to stay awake to watch movies, and enjoy the experience of my first Bizz Class, which means I will be awake until the wee hours of the morning and sleep all day the following day in my hotel. Probably not a good thing! lol

We arrive in Bangkok at 8pm on a Sunday night and our Oman Air flight leaves 9am the next morning. I will just get a nice nights sleep, so I am awake for the full experience. We will land in Milan around 6.40pm. PIty Bizz class isnt really that common in Europe for short flights, and if one is found its hugely expensive for the time in air. Guess we will be flying Easyjet from Milan to Sicily! Gasp!

LOL

The other option is ALitalia. But from what I hear, its not amazing.

Correction: I meant that Business Class is common domestically throughout Europe, but that its quite expensive for the short distance travelled compared to within OZ.

Flying domestic in Italy use air one ,a budget carrier owned by Alitalia ,they have a great product where the front 7 rows you pay move get better service, equal to Euro buisiness in BA for 1/4 the price the front row you pay 50 Euro's more but are guaranteed a vacant seat next to you ,the price drops between row one and seven ,I have flown a lot in Europe using  Euro buisiness not a patch on our australian domestic buisiness ,also look at train travel ,Italy now has 4 classes off travel on the trains ,and they are fast 250/300kph ,best to use Trenitalia line .hope this helps

Yeh I've thought about training it. But doing that all the way to Sicily is about 14 hrs.
