Morning everyone. Im heading to the Philippines in July. I'm an associate at a Chartered Accounting firm and obviously need to stay in touch with the firm and my clients. Can anyone recommend a good and reliable mobile carrier in the Philippines. (not too concerned about calling - need the internet to be fast and reliable). Thanks.

I believe the mobile business there is a duopoly controlled by either SMART or Globe. There may be other brand names owned by these two companies. Take your pick.

I recommend Globe Telecom. Internet is unfortunately slow in the Philippines even if you go with SMART but the connection is reliable with Globe from experience.

Aerodude is right, I travel there every year and find Globe to be reliable and their 4G is fast enough to use email, do Viber calls and send standard MS Office files.

I wouldn't recommend Skype video calls, they seem to break up every so often. Their 3G service is fine for Pandora while on the move. Travelled up to La Union (6 hours away) with no issues.

Globe and SMART have nearly identical pricing. Many locals have a Globe/Touch Mobile (TM) SIM (Globe subsidary) and their daily caps include unlimited text and call to Globe/TM numbers.

Sorry accidetally pressed Post without the last bit!

Most locals have Globe so for them it's more convient if you had a Globe SIM. Made the mistake of getting SMART last trip, most people texted me to call them!

Enjoy the Philippines :)
