Hi guys, I am a Qantas PFF and travel a lot for work. My company is adopting a BFOD policy which means I'll be flying VA not Qantas. I was recently status matched with Etihad to Guest Gold. As Etihad is a codeshare with VA I was considering using my Guest Gold when flying. Would it be best to do that or try and earn gold with VA? Thanks in advance!

Can you earn gold with VA whilst using your Etihad status for Lounge access etc?

Hi Blair,

According to EY's Etihad Guest web site, when travelling on a VA operated flight you and one guest may have access to the lounge (http://www.etihadguest.com/en/earn-miles/airline/virgin-australia/)

If I was in your position, I'd consider signing up for VA Velocity and tagging all your VA flights with your Velocity membership number with the aim to attain at least Gold status with Velocity. While you're doing this, use your EY Gold status to get yourself and one guest in to the lounge. The self-check-in kiosk may not allow you entry as you will have your Velocity Red tagged to that boardy pass, but if you show your EY Gold card to the reception desk, they should let you though.

Give it a shot! :)

Hey Blair,

Providing you are a QANTAS Gold (?) I would contact VA with your membership Card and recent statement stating your situation.

If not I would consider applying for the Accelerate program, which gives workplaces Two 3 month gold memberships and if members gain 80 status credits within 3 months they retain gold for a year ( this is how i gained my gold membership)

Accelerate info is in a post here- http://www.ausbt.com.au/fast-track-to-frequent-flyer-status-with-qantas-virgin-australia

Good Luck!
