Can I fly business class to Queenstown on a VA ticket?
Starting from Perth, Jan 2015, don't care which eastern transit stop I make (SYD, MEL, BNE, AKL are all OK) but I want a VA flight number so I can keep my SC up and either earn or burn FF points. I'm only really asking about the east coast to Queenstown leg. I can't find a single flight at any time that has business seats. Last time I went it was 2009 on a Pacific Blue 737 single class layout, but I thought all VA's 737s now had the new layout with 8 comfy seats up the front they'd be happy to sell.

VA don't have any business class on their Tasman planes. They do have a premiem economy however.
If you're wanting business class ex PER, the best option will be on the direct Air NZ flight to AKL (lie-flat bed and can be booked as a VA flight number). Then from AKL down to ZQN. The domestic sector won't be business class as all NZ domestic flights are economy.

I'd take the NZ Dreamliner flight to Auckland and connect to an A320 to Queenstown. The A320 won't have business class (it's only an hour and a half flight) but you will get the best product for the Perth-Auckland flight. Also one of the quickest options and you will earn the business SC's

I agree with the other two the new 787-9 Business class definately looks great. And is a fairly convenient way. http://www.ausbt.com.au/boeing-reveals-first-787-9-in-air-new-zealand-livery Then there will be a short a320 flight at the end. This is the best option in my opinion however if you want to have two flights of about the same length instead of a long one then a short one then go through MEL or SYD

Thanks all, I forgot that the 787 will be starting on that route in a few months. Having not had the pleasure of a flight on one yet, that option has sold it for me!
