Hi All, Living in Melbourne need to fly VA to LAX, hold Platinum Status trying to work out best way to fly there via SYD or BNE. Which is better as it takes about the same time. Thanks

Sam,

Isn't it much of a muchness? If I were you I'll pick the port with the nicer lounge. Unless you're desperate for status credits, in which case MEL/BNE offers higher SC while the SC for the SYD/LAX and BNE/LAX is constant (I believe).

Via BNE will yield few more SC because MEL-BNE is in zone 2. The transfer in either airports only differs by th bus transfer, in SYD you go to a gate and catch the bus to the international terminal, in BNE you go kerbside.

As a Platinum member you'd have access to the Etihad lounge in Sydney until the new Air NZ lounge open, and then the newly-renovated NZ lounge.

In Brisbane it's just the Air NZ lounge which is overdue for a refurb.

More status credits via Brisbane though, so perhaps consider doing Sydney outbound and Brisbane on the return? Both flights are daily now.
