Had a good experience with CX from SYD via HKG, and like the airport in HKG. At the time it had better connection to suit my plans, compared with EY, EK, SG.

Personal preference and rewards program may also sway your decision. Note CX J-class product is very good and good range of 'western style' menu offering, however Etihad have just won all the awards!

Have travelled to CDG on SQ (A380), CX (A330/777W) and TG (747/A380) on J and found CX to be the best overall plus chance for stopover in HKG. SQ is better from food, service and entertainment but falls behind CX in terms of seat, lounges and amenity kits. Have flown on EH to London but not on the A380 which would be sensational. Going there for work next month and EH is the cheapest option compared to QF, EK, CX, SQ or BA. I will be going to CDG via Tokyo on JL for Xmas and managed to grab 2x J fares at ca. $5.5K each under a companion fare deal. Fantastic value and JL will be using their 777-300ER plane with the new suite seats during this period between SYD and NRT and from NRT or HND you have the option to either take a 777-300ER or a Dreamliner to CDG. Also looking forward to stopping over in Tokyo on the way back. The companion fare sale is offiicially available until the end of this month but won' be surprised if allocated seats will run out quickly.

Cathay via HK is definetly the way to go IMHO.

If your with QFF its a much better option to go CX as they are part of OW so You can earn SC's and points.

CX is very consistent with service and product. I have found EY to be not consistent in terms of soft product. I do find with CX there are 2 types of crew, the first being the standard good CX service and the second being the ones that go out of their way to make the flight an experience and not just a flight!

CX hard product is great and the 77W operated between CDG and HKG is slightly wider than that found on the A33G.

Catering ex HKG is always great and only on one occasion has is been sub-par. I have found catering ex CDG to be a bit of a dissapointment.

In terms of lounges in  HK on the stopover the Wing, Pier, Bridge, Cabin are all exceptional..

If you hold Platinum or above you can access the QF First Lounge in SYD and the CX First Lounges in HK (The Pier and The Wing).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Looks like CX is the preferred airline, I have flown them before throughout Asia and had a good experience.. Never really long haul though.

Heres another question im only QFF silver- what would be the earn rate for points/SC if I put them on my QFF account? I'm not too fussed about SC as we tend to fly J internationally but I suppose it may help domestically as we usually fly Y?

thanks again

If you're willing to spend the money why not just fly QF/EK? Particularly since it seems you're with QFF?

I have tossed up the idea, although to me spending another $1000 on QF for a sub par hard product seems a waste when the points/ SC aren't really that important to me..
