I am Velocity Gold flying on a domestic service operated by American, codeshare with Etihad (i.e. purchased on an Etihad ticket). Do you think I'll be able to access the AA domestic lounges? I suspect not...

Nope - you'd need to book a flight with Delta (or Virgin America out of LAX) for lounge access.

I'm a Platinum with American so know that the answer is, unfortunately, no. They were trying to swap me a few months ago off one AA flight that had been cancelled onto first class with EY, so a few things happened to be discussed at the time, and this was one of them. The EY/AA partnership doesn't extend to Admiral's Club lounge access for Etihad Guest eites or vice versa for AAdvantage elites (or paid Admiral's Club lounge members) to access EY lounges. AA definitely do not permit Virgin Australia elites (or paid lounge members) access to their lounges.

Their partnership allows for codeshares, a standard interline agreement and reciprocal ability for each others' frequent flyers to redemption points for flights; no lounge access.

You can purchase an Admirals Club day pass for USD 50 but if I were you, I'd give that a miss and get a Starbucks and do a bit of people watching at the terminal. It is a lot more interesting!
