Hi All, I am going over to the US late Oct early Nov. (From Australia) I start off my trip at the SEMA car show in Vagas which I have booked. I fly back to LAX on the 4th of November and have 4 days to spend, doing something not quite sure as yet but I was hoping to spend a few days in the Santa Monica area. The only issue is that it seem very expensive for accommodation in that area. Is it better to try and book with IHG? Will I receive discounts? Or just book on line when I am there after the first night. I could hire a car and have a look around but I would like to chill a bit as well. I am travelling on my own and I don't want to stay in a dog box, I figure if I am that far away I should have some luxuries. Could you guide me in the general direction please. I would appreciate your help.
Honestly, Santa Monica is overrated, but I guess it depends on what you're looking for. LA that time of the year is starting to get cold - more like Brisbane in Winter. My preference is over the other side of LAX - around Manhatten or Hermosa Beach...quite, safe, and good connections to the major freeways...
beverly Hilton is pretty cool. Great poolside area. You can easily get the bus direct to Santa Monica Pier (about 15-minutes). All the glitzy shops are on the doorstep. Sunset Blve and Holiday are just a short cab ride away. We stay there whenever visiting LAX and like it a lot.
i am looking at the Marina Del Rey hotel, it looks nice and on the Marina but it is expensive something like $1400 AUD for 4 nights. I might have to suck it up as it seems to be very expensive to stay anywhere in LA.
I guess that I am looking for somewhere to chill out but have the option of shopping and some good close by bars, a bit of walking and people watching. I am travelling on my own and was going to hire a car but I may not need one if I am in a good location. Does Manhatten area have all of this?
Also I have transferred some $ into my CBA travel card, is that the best way to avoid all of these bank fees?
Again thanks for your input.
Regards
Ross

Try VRBO.com or airbnb.

quite = quiet! Which also means less risk of street crime...
