Has anyone flew this route? I know AUSBT has reviewed it but keen to hear other voices.

We flew it a few days ago. Beautiful A350 but what's with the all HK crew? Cathay rejects? Functional but impersonal. Quite different from the lovely Finnish people we've been interacting with.

Lounge and onboard dining very subpar. Yes, very nice cabin and lounge design - I'm all Marimekko'd out but design alone does not sustain me. Not the best sleep either due to the length of the flight. All in all rather underwhelming.

There were a couple of Aussie couples connecting in HKG to MEL, SYD. They would have paid in excess of $5,000 each for the return trip. Kinda felt sorry for them. Not sure if it's worth that much. This was a redemption for us.

AY needs to offer better food in the lounge so that you can go straight to sleep and wake up to a more contemporary breakfast. And do something about the crew - too cold and impersonal.

I have only done the SIN-HEL plus euro zone. I would say Finns are not known for being particularly warm, but functional in their service, and personable. I think the onboard pretty much reflects the expectations of the country
I think they are currently $5.4 which is 20% cheaper than the top tier Singapore/Cathay business, for perspective

I take your point. I recently had an option of AY or QR in J for a price difference of $600 (QR was dearer). After this experience I'm glad I had picked QR - QR option also offered more TPs.

Have done done Europe via Hong Kong with Finnair in business twice but not on the A350 and will be doing it again in March 17 excpent this time via Singapore

I agree the cabin crew and the catering are not up to the standard of Cathy or Qantas but for the price they are worth using
